Midsumma Pride March 2021 will return to Fitzroy St, St Kilda on Sunday 23 May 2021.
The Australian Workers Union will be attending Midsumma for our first time as a contingent and will be marching alongside the Victorian Trades Hall Council providing us an opportunity to walk with our fellow union members and members of the LGBTI+ community more broadly.
We are proud to be joining the Victorian Trades Hall Council for our first time and to take this opportunity to continue building on our advocacy and support for the LGBTI+ community. We invite our Members, Delegates, OHS reps and Officials to join us at the Ian Johnson Oval on the corner of Lakeside Drive and Fitzroy Street at 11am.
Midsumma festival is Australia's premier queer arts and cultural event, bringing together a diverse mix of LGBTI+ artists, performers, communities, and audiences. The closure of the festival each year is the annual Midsumma Pride March to thank, acknowledge and show our support for the LGBTI+ community more broadly.
The Australian Workers Union have always stood united with our LGBTI+ identifying workers including leading a campaign during the marriage equality plebiscite, calling our members, and highlighting to them our firm stance that equality is union business. We have since celebrated and recognised significant dates within the LGBTI+ calendar though flag flying ceremonies, social media campaigns and pushing for further LGBTI+ inclusion in our workplaces and now it is our time to march!
